Farewell St. Barts, Hello South Africa!

Hello Ladies and Gents-

Welcome to my blog!
A special thank you to my future brother-in-law for guiding me through this "blogging" process.

This week has been CRAZY - with a capital C for Courtney Love...very hectic and lots of needles (get it...ha ha).

So, as many of you know, I was officially accepted to participate in a program through GVI (Global Vision International).
Starting March 28th, I will be spending 2 weeks volunteering in an orphanage in South Africa.

This all came about very quickly, so I only started my fundraising on Monday.
My goal is $1500 by the end of next week. As of today, I have reached ALMOST 50% of that. If you are interested in donating, shoot me an email.

For those of you who have already donated - BIG BIG HUGS AND KISSES - THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Wednesday was a big day - D Day (Dr's Day).
First stop- VACCINATIONS! I had no idea how many shots this trip would require (5 for those of you who care) - ouch ouch ouch. Then a quick visit to my amazing "head Dr" to make sure "Maggie Going Rogue" was still a good and rational decision.

In the coming weeks I will continue my countdown to SA (I depart in 22 days).
I hope to provide fun updates and pictures while I am away. Along with some serious reflection...as I am sure this is going to be quite an emotional journey.

An old friend of mine sent me an article from a NY Times Op-Ed Columnist who had recently spent some time with a girl who had volunteered in a South African Orphanage. In the simplest of words she told him "she was able to help those orphans just a little bit. And they transformed her"
I thought it was so touching and I have a feeling it might be very accurate. (Thanks Andrea).

xoxo
Maggie
